Dr Marianna Ercolino
Senior Lecturer, Academic Portfolio Lead for Civil Engineering
Dr Marianna Ercolino was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the University of Greenwich in 2016. She received her PhD in Seismic Risk at the University of Naples "Federico II" in 2014. She gained her MSc in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering and her BEng in Civil Engineering at the University of Naples in 2008.
Marianna has a strong research experience in Structural and Earthquake Engineering. She worked on several national and international projects about the behaviour of structure under seismic actions. She spent 6 months as a visiting researcher at the State University of Buffalo (New York, USA) in 2014 where she started working on non-destructive techniques and she is currently investigating the use of such methods for metallic infrastructure.
Marianna has an 9 years' experience as instructor in higher education. She is currently the module leader of three courses in the BEng in Civil Engineering and MSc in Civil Engineering. She supervised several Final year projects and MSc dissertations in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. She is the Programme Leader of the MSc in Civil Engineering and the MSc in Civil Engineering with Industrial Practice.Awards

Research / Scholarly interests
Marianna has been working on the seismic performance of buildings in the last 10 years. She studies the seismic vulnerability of these structures by means of nonlinear analysis methods and innovative modelling approaches. During time spent at the University of Buffalo, Marianna applied the Acoustic Emission technique for the corrosion detection in reinforced concrete elements. She is still working on this topic by studying the correlation between the Acoustic Emissions and the fatigue/fracture damage in metallic components of bridges under various loading conditions.
