Dr Anand Veeraswamy BE, MSc, PhD

Research Fellow

Software and Web developer, urban scale evacuations  Dr Anand Veeraswamy is a Research software/web developer working for the Fire Safety Engineering Group (FSEG). His main research area is on developing decision support tools for urban scale evacuations which is focussed on improving the safety and security of citizens.

Current and past projects involve modelling urban scale evacuations dealing with evacuations due to wildfires, floods, earthquakes and terrorist incidents.

IDIRA – Interoperability in multinational major loss situations  Dr Veeraswamys’ main role in this project was to develop an online web interface to urbanEXODUS – a large scale evacuation model that could be used for planning and real time applications.

GEO-SAFE- Geospatial based Environment for Optimisation Systems Addressing Fire Emergencies
Dr Veeraswamys’ main roles in this project was to assist with project co-ordination duties and research activities involved the integration of wildfire models with evacuation models and enhancing the webEXODUS

IN-PREP – An Integrated next generation PREParedness programme for improving effective inter-organisational response in complex environments of disasters and causes of crises

Dr Veeraswamys’ main role in the project was the preparation of input data for simulation tools and the integration of the evacuation model – urbanEXODUS with the IN-PREP system

Dr Veeraswamy has a PhD in computing and mathematics for modelling human wayfinding behaviours within built environments. His PhD involved the the collection and analysis of human way finding behaviours and the application of graph search algorithms to enhance the existing capabilities of the EXODUS evacuation model.
