Senior Lecturer

A K M Mahtab Hossain joined the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences in May, 2015, and is currently serving as a Senior Lecturer. Mahtab received his PhD from the Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering of National University of Singapore (NUS). His research interests lie in topics related to indoor positioning, wireless sensor networks, mobile computing and data science.

Mahtab teaches modules related to data science, Web application development, user-centred design methodology and software engineering in general.

Research / Scholarly interests

Mahtab’s research focuses on delivering cost-effective indoor localisation solutions using existing infrastructure (e.g., Wi-Fi networks) and off-the-shelf mobile phone sensors (e.g., accelerometer, gyroscope, BLE, Wi-Fi). He explores statistical analysis of the signals, and apply machine learning (data science) approaches.
