Study this Master's in the heart of London which hosts a huge variety of world-class live events, ranging from music and entertainment to sporting events, international trade fairs and community festivals to name but a few.

The events industry is a dynamic and rapidly growing sector, incorporating both commercial and creative elements. If you are seeking to develop your management potential within this sector and improve your transferable skills such as presentation ability and creativity, then this Master's is for you. 

Course structure

You will gain knowledge in direct marketing campaigns when acquiring new customers and nurturing existing customer relationships. A greater number of organisations now invest in live communications to create experiences for customers, inspire and motivate employees, and develop meaningful messages for brands.

Our Master's will equip you with the skills and knowledge to manage an events project and quality of service delivered at the event. You will gain a better appreciation and understanding of the theoretical underpinnings, operational practice implications, and public policy issues relating to events management.

Our combination of courses will provide you with knowledge in relationship marketing, event budget management, innovation, managing culturally diverse teams, strategic project management, all required for developing you as an events professional.

Outcomes

The aims of this degree are to:

  • Enable you to gain a broad grounding in business subjects while focusing on your specific discipline of events management
  • Prepare you for a career in the events industry by developing your skills and knowledge at a professional level, and as preparation for research or further study in the area
  • Develop your ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the events business and events management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve events business and events management practice
  • Enhance lifelong learning skills and personal development, to stimulate self-direction and originality and to contribute to the events business and society at large.

What you'll study

Entry requirements

You should have an undergraduate degree at 2.2 or above, or equivalent qualification, from a recognised university or higher education institute.

Mature applicants without an undergraduate degree but with relevant business experience are encouraged to apply, subject to interview.

If you were educated in a language other than English and/or in a country where English speakers are in a minority, you should have a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill) or equivalent.

If you require a Tier 4 (General) student visa to study in the UK, your score must be from a UK Visas and Immigration approved IELTS test.

Alternatively, students with an overall IELTS of 5.0 or 5.5 can study our Pre-Sessional English language programme prior to degree studies.

Applicants without a degree but with relevant professional experience are encouraged to apply.

Assessment

Assessment procedures reflect the overall objective of each course. 

You will be assessed through a rich and balanced portfolio of techniques, including:

  • Class presentations 
  • Tests and examinations

  • Portfolios
  • Dissertation.

Teaching and learning

Our teaching and learning philosophy includes the whole learning process, both how courses are taught and how the personal needs of our students are addressed. Lectures and tutorials provide a framework of knowledge which you will be expected to build upon through private reading and completion of self-directed tasks.

Classes are a mixture of lectures, tutorials, presentations, videos, seminars, guest speakers, site visits and field trips, depending on the teaching requirements of the course. Attendance is monitored throughout the year, both for core and option courses. You will be expected to attend taught courses on a frequent basis.

Careers

Graduates pursue opportunities in senior positions in a wide variety of roles connected with events and events management. This may include events management companies, PR firms, local authorities, performing arts companies, festivals, conference venues, theatres, hotels, sports venues or concert halls.

Employability

You can also reach out to top employers through our dedicated Business School Employability Office (BSEO). The BSEO team develops your employment skills through CV support, interview skills workshops and guidance through mentors to progress in the industry. This includes the opportunity to network with employers and recruiters at career fairs.

Extracurricular activities

The Events Society provides an additional forum for students to meet and discuss current trends with faculty and guest speakers. You will also be able to gain work experience and develop your skills at the various events the society organises.
