This dual award master's in Strategic Marketing Communications gives you the opportunity to study in two European countries and achieve two master's awards within one year. You'll be able to take advantage of the leading management and digital expertise at ESCEM School of Business and Management (France) and University of Greenwich's Business School (UK). You also undertake a work placement to build essential skills for your future career.

This MA course will help graduates and qualified managers understand and evaluate key aspects of the marketing and communications disciplines. On this programme, you'll gain international and intercultural experience, develop integrated communications strategies, and benefit from the extensive networks of both institutions.

What you should know about this course

  • Upon completing this course, you receive an MA Strategic Marketing Communications from the University of Greenwich and an MSc International Marketing Communications from ESCEM School of Business and Management in France.
  • The entire course is delivered in English. No knowledge of French is required.

Entry requirements

If you are

You should have an undergraduate degree at 2.2 or above, or equivalent qualification, from a recognised university or higher education institute.

Alternatively, you should have at least three years' relevant marketing experience and a professional qualification equal to the Chartered Institute of Marketing's Diploma in Professional Marketing.

How you will learn

Teaching

In a typical week, learning takes place through a combination of lectures and seminars. You'll be able to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller group sessions. Contact hours may fall between 9am and 9pm, depending on your elective courses and tutorials.

Class sizes

The typical student intake per year is up to 20. Lectures are normally attended by 20-30, and seminars/tutorials by 15-30, based on our 2018 intake. This varies by module, particularly if they are shared between degrees.

Independent learning

Outside of timetabled sessions, you'll need to dedicate time to self-study to prepare for coursework, presentations and exams. Our Stockwell Street library and online resources will support your further reading and research. 

You can also join a range of student societies, including the Marketing Society.

Overall workload

Your overall workload consists of contact hours (lectures, seminars, etc), independent learning, and assessments. For full-time students, the workload should be roughly equivalent to a full-time job. For part-time students, this will reduce in proportion with the number of modules you are studying.

We aim to provide feedback on assignments and to release examination results within 15 working days.

Whether you choose to live in halls of residence or rent privately, we can help you find what you're looking for. We have dedicated accommodation for postgraduate students (Devonport House) available from just £160 per person per week, with bills included. If you require more space or facilities, these options are available at a slightly higher cost. Students based at the Medway Campus can also reside in student halls in Chatham or rent privately in the local area.

Further costs may include (but are not limited to):

  • Resources: you may need to purchase books for your studies, as well as specific computer software (estimate, £150 per year). Our Stockwell Street library offers an extensive range of books for loan, as well as access to journals and digital resources.
  • Memberships: applying for membership of a professional body may incur further costs. Details can be found on their websites.
  • Travel: travel and the cost of living in Paris needs to be covered by students. A limited number of students may be eligible for a scholarship through the Erasmus+ overseas exchange programme. Further details will be provided upon receipt of an unconditional/conditional offer on the programme.

What sort of careers do graduates pursue?

You will be able to work as a marketing/marketing communications manager, brand strategist, social media strategist, corporate media executive, marketing research manager or marketing/communication consultant in a wide range of multinational companies, non-government and public sector organisations, and consultancies.

Academic skills and study support

Access study skills support through your tutor, our subject librarians, and our online academic skills centre.

Where appropriate, we provide support in academic English and mathematics. If you need support to use particular IT packages for a specific module, we provide training for this.

Support from the department

The student Marketing Society has over 100 members. The Society combines a mixture of academic and social activities. It's a great chance to hear about the industry from experts, previous speakers include IBM and Mediacom, and an opportunity for you to create business contacts.

Our marketing students achieved first place in the latest national marketing competition organised by the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing.

As a Business School student, you will be able to enter our Enterprise Challenge, which rewards student entrepreneurship and innovation. Previous winners have received significant prize money to develop their business ideas.

We hold Big Picture Seminars with senior executives from organisations including Northern Trust and Barclays are invited to pass on their insights and experience.
