Aims

In order to manage a business, it is vital to be proficient in financial management to ensure adequate financing and the efficient use of resources. The aim of the module is to develop competence in financial management for the efficient management of a business.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this Module a student will be able to:
1. Research and analyse corporate data, including balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
2. Prepare clear and convincing analytical reports using strategic theory.
3. Formulate and evaluate investment proposals.

Indicative content

• Key financial management concepts such as: profit and loss account and balance sheets.
• Competitor Analysis.
• Strategic planning and its link to investment decision-making including ROI.
• Financial Cycle and Budgeting.
The module content will be embedded with contexts relating specifically to international tourism, hospitality and event businesses.

To include some or all of the following: Lectures; Seminars; Presentations; Debates; Self-managed reading and research activities; visits/outside speakers where appropriate.

Assessment

Case Study Analysis - Weighting 100%, Pass Mark 50%.
Outcomes assessed - 1,2,3.
