Early Career Researcher Network

Greenwich Early Career Researcher Network is designed to support, empower and develop our researchers by providing a dedicated space for accessing resources, finding funding and grant opportunities and forums for discussing ECR issues with colleagues. Our focus is to find out what Early Career Researchers need, whether it be training, resources or dialogue and tailor our Network to support those requirements.

What is an ECR?

The University has adopted the following definition for ECRs:

  • Staff with a doctorate, or registered for completion, who are within five years of having gained their a first academic post for teaching and research or research only at any HEI
  • Staff currently employed to an academic post for teaching and research or research only at any HEI, who are within two years of having been awarded their PhD
  • Staff who have been employed on specific fixed term contracts for less than five years (with Doctorates)
  • This limit would increase for those with career interruptions – aggregated to the duration of interruption.
