Survey Feedback - Computing & Mathematical Sciences

This year there was a very high response from students who completed the survey. We again achieved some outstanding results from the National Student Survey, which is filled in by undergraduate students in the final year of their study. In response to the question about overall satisfaction, all four departments in the School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences achieved rates that were above both the university and national sector averages. This is another excellent result for the School and a tribute to the dedication and hard work of all the staff in the School.

Overall, it is clear from the responses to all our surveys that our students are very satisfied with their experience during their studies with us however, we are aware that things do not always go according to plan and we can make improvements in some areas. The purpose of this response is to provide students with some feedback on the actions we have taken. In this short response it would be impossible to address all the points raised on every course in every survey, but please rest assured that these are all taken seriously and we are addressing them by preparing and implementing action plans for each course where issues have been raised.

Student feedback last year included the perceived delay in login times, the need for dedicated storage areas for digital media students and also the performance use of some software such as Netbeans. In response to this, the School have invested in infrastructure to significantly speed up the process of login, to provide the dedicated storage area for digital media students to improve assessment uploads, and the improved accessibility of resource intensive applications, particularly for Netbeans. The feedback so far has been very positive at the stage committee meetings where students have presented their feedback and experiences.

Access to resources has also been significantly improved such as additional TV and Film studio equipment (red camera) and upgrades to the VDI to allow more convenient access via mobile devices such as iPads and iPhones.

We welcome feedback throughout the year, so if you are a student and you have any problem, please contact your personal tutor who will be very happy to help.

We hope our students continue to enjoy their experience at Greenwich and remain in touch with us after they complete their studies. We are always delighted to hear about the continuing achievements of our graduates as their success can help to inspire future generations.
