Course structure

This degree focuses on the analytical aspects of business that can be used to improve business performance, with particular emphasis on aspects of finance. 

It will teach you how to develop and manage businesses, taking into account emerging business issues, such as sustainability, financial crisis and technological innovation, as well as focusing on quantitative analysis and systems, and the principles, practice and regulation of the banking sector.

As part of your studies, you will have the opportunity to work with business professionals and/or local communities on live projects in order to gain valuable practical experience. You will learn to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore alternative solutions, and to integrate theory and practice in a range of situations.

Students are assessed through assignments, examinations and in-course assessments, including:

  • Presentations
  • Problem-solving activities
  • Computer-simulated exercises.


Career opportunities are available with a specialist financial focus in general management within retail, consultancy, small to medium enterprises and business start-up.

Work placement

The Business School has a dedicated Employability Office to assist students in securing a placement during their sandwich year. Working with over 200 companies, they also offer a range of internships, mentoring schemes and networking opportunities.

The sandwich year (work placement) will appear as a 30-credit course on your Diploma if completed successfully.

Experience abroad 

You can participate in the Erasmus+ international exchange programme. This will help improve your language skills and give you experience of living and working in another country. The Erasmus+ scheme provides a grant towards the cost of studying abroad for a year. 


You will connect with employers through our dedicated Business School Employability Team, who focus on developing your employment skills. They also provide you with CV support and will invite you to employment fairs to network with employers and recruiters from industries.

Extracurricular activities

Our Greenwich Employability Passport scheme recognises and rewards your participation in additional activities such as part-time work, volunteering, student societies or industry guest lectures.

Business start-up

You will be encouraged to enter the university's Enterprise Challenge, which rewards student entrepreneurship and innovation. Previous winners received a prize of £5,000 for their idea of developing an enterprise and study hub.
