As the pressing needs of the world gradually shift toward the sustainable supply of energy and raw materials, preservation of natural resources and the environment, and targeted delivery of services and products, new opportunities arise for chemical engineers.

This course offers students a range of industrial chemical manufacturing and processing technologies with the inclusion of industrial planning, powder handling and storage, safety and social impact considerations. Process safety, risk and safety tools will be a theme that infuses the whole degree from start to finish.

We offer exchange courses for undergraduate students that gives the opportunity to study and live abroad at a partner university and also opportunities for additional training at industrial facilities.

Academic and industry experts will cover a wide range of subject areas relevant to cutting-edge research, new technologies, and emerging growth areas in chemical engineering. Subject areas covered include: engineering science and fundamentals, separation, particle technology, catalysis and reaction engineering, management, sustainability and process design, pharmaceutical discovery and development, food and beverage and bioengineering.

This BEng Hons (Extended) degree is identical to the BEng Hons, but also includes a foundation year. The first students from Chemical Engineering at the University of Greenwich will graduate in 2020. The IChemE can only accredit course once the first cohort of students has graduated. The University of Greenwich intends to seek accreditation by the IChemE.

A programme of accredited further learning will be required to complete the educational base for CEng. The programme offers entry routes from both Engineering and Chemistry courses. Please contact us for further details.

Entry requirements

Typical Offer: 64 Points

Applicants from a UK educational background:

Qualifications: three A-levels/Extended Diploma/combination of A-level and Diploma/A-levels and Extended Certificate

Subjects:

  • A-level: 16 Points from mathematics, a physical science or a numerate subject. General Studies/Level 3 Key Skills not accepted
  • BTEC National: Extended Diploma in Engineering (required: Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems (Unit 7) and Further Engineering Mathematics (Unit 8), both at Pass) or related subject.
  • A-level and BTEC National: Diploma/Extended Certificate in Engineering and 16 Points from A-level Mathematics if Units 7 and/or 8 are not included
  • A-level and BTEC National: Diploma/Extended Certificate in Applied Science and 16 Points from A-level Mathematics
  • Plus GCSEs in English language and mathematics at grade 4 or above (grade C or above under the A*-G system), and one GCSE science subject at Grade C or above under the A*-G system. We also accept equivalent qualifications at Level 2, such as Functional Skills in Mathematics and English.

We will also consider:

  • AS-levels along with A2-levels
  • Alternative qualifications at Level 3, such as OCR Cambridge Technicals, AQA Tech-level, the International Baccalaureate and Access to Engineering
  • Appropriate qualifications such as an HNC, HND or Foundation Degree, with which you may be able to enter this degree in Year 2.

Applicants from a non-UK educational background:

International applicants will need to show qualifications equivalent to those required for UK student entry requirements. Further to this, applicants should have:

  • Successfully completed 12 years of full time education
  • The ability to demonstrate competence in mathematics (usually equivalent to GCSE grade C)
  • The ability to demonstrate English language capability to an equivalent of IELTS 6.0 or above, with no skill below 5.5.

A desire to study in the UK university system is expected, but some applicants may need a year to adapt to the UK higher education system.
