Aims

• To gain a deeper understanding of an aspect of learning or teaching to enhance professional knowledge and understanding.
• To have a good working knowledge of the literature in the area of study and use it critically to define and support the research methodology.
• To demonstrate knowledge and skills in the design, implementation, analysis and evaluation of a small-scale research project.


Learning outcomes

Students will be working within Teachers’ Standards to enhance their critical understanding of developments and valuing of scholarship (TS3) in order to fulfil their wider professional responsibilities (TS8).

On successful completion of this course a student will be able to:

1 Identify and critically evaluate the literature in an area of personal, professional interest. TS2,3
2 Identify and use an appropriate and ethical research methodology to investigate an area of study. TS3,PT2
3 Critically analyse and interpret the research data in respect of the literature. TS3
4 Critically evaluate the research methodology used.
5 Discuss how the research has enhanced their personal professional development and practice. TS3,8,PT2
6 Complete a sustained academic research assignment.
