Aims
This course aims to introduce students to the basic management and leadership functions, quantitative, financial knowledge, and other skills that they will need in order to develop and/or manage a business. This course will present students with the current theoretical thinking in the field of business planning and development. It will also identify necessary tools for starting a new business and for fostering entrepreneurial behaviour within an existing business. Emphasis will be placed on the key aspects of business planning and development, including the attributes of entrepreneurs, identifying, evaluating, and exploiting opportunities, financing a business, and building a successful team. The aim of the course will also be to equip students with the ability to conduct primary research, create databases, and analyse the databases.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course a student will be able to:
1 introduction to business planning and management
2 conducting quantitative feasibility studies
3 developing a business report based on the outcome of a simulation (i.e. accounting, marketing, and operations)
4 evaluating methods of financing new businesses
5 identifying legal forms of organization for a business

Teaching and learning activity
Lectures and tutorials which are enabled by team-based learning approach are the main focus of the delivery. Activities include presentations, class discussions, on-line exercises and business simulation game.
