Senior Lecturer in Midwifery

Ethel serves as a Senior Lecturer for Midwifery in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Greenwich. Before joining the university, Ethel accumulated 11 years of clinical experience within the NHS, working in both acute and community midwifery practice settings. Throughout her clinical career, Ethel focused on clinical simulation teaching and training, enhancing students learning outcomes, and improving clinical placements experience.

One notable project Ethel contributed to was a pilot project with NHS England (formerly known as HEE England) on Collaborative Learning in Practice (CLiP), showcasing her commitment to innovation in education. This pilot project was the first to be piloted within a London-based maternity unit. Ethel continues to support NHS Trusts with implementing CLiP and coaching techniques within their settings. All her resources continue to be shared widely on the HEE London Pan CLiP steering group.

Ethel's passion for teaching extends beyond the classroom. She has developed electronic learning resources for coaching techniques utilised by NHS staff and students, demonstrating her dedication to enhancing learning experiences beyond traditional methods.

Furthermore, Ethel holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, enabling her to effectively blend academic theory with practical teaching strategies. As a link lecturer at Lewisham and Greenwich Trust, she maintains a connection between academic learning and clinical practice.

Ethel enjoys her role as a Personal Tutor, Ethel provides invaluable support to her tutees, including those participating in the Midwifery Return to Practice Programme. Additionally, she is in her final year in the Master's (MA) in Education program, furthering her own academic and professional development.

Ethel's commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident through her involvement with the Midwifery Student EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) steering group. She also actively engages with further education seminars and primary school career fairs, inspiring the younger generation to pursue Higher Education and careers in healthcare. Ethel's multifaceted contributions to education and healthcare exemplify her dedication to advancing both academic and clinical fields.
