Research / Scholarly interests

Dr Kogbara’s research interests are in the areas of geo-environmental engineering and infrastructure materials. His research seeks to create inhabitable places and beneficial resources from problematic spaces and materials. His research over the years has revolved around contaminated land remediation technologies; utilisation and characterisation of cementitious and polymeric materials, non-destructive evaluation, sustainable construction materials involving construction, demolition and industrial wastes, beneficial reuse of industrial wastes and materials as resources, geopolymers and 3D concrete printing, etc. His expertise in these areas is summarised below:

Geo-environmental engineering: Contaminated land remediation and hazardous waste treatment technologies – bioremediation, composting, phytoremediation, stabilisation/solidification using a range of cementitious materials, combination of remediation technologies, beneficial reuse of industrial wastes and materials as resources, and environmental monitoring and modelling.

Infrastructure materials: Concrete for severe environments and durability of concrete structures – concrete behaviour at cryogenic temperatures, characterisation and microstructural analyses of materials, non-destructive evaluation, skid resistance of asphalt pavements, subgrade soil stabilisation, sustainable construction materials utilising C&D and industrial wastes, low-carbon concrete, geopolymers and 3D concrete printing.
