I am an Italian PhD candidate in Applied Linguistics, who has always been passionate about languages and travelling, which is why I moved to the UK in 2013. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Language Mediation (Italian, English and French), from Gregorio VII University of Rome, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Conference Interpreting and Specialised Translation (Italian, English and French), from the University of Trieste, Italy. I have been teaching Modern Foreign Languages (Italian, French and Spanish) in Secondary Schools in the UK since 2014. I am undertaking a PhD because I have always been fascinated by research in audiovisual translation and I would like to teach in higher education.
Research / Scholarly interests
The title of my thesis is “Regionalisms and cultural references in the English adaptation of the Italian Netflix series Suburra: Blood on Rome: an audience reception study. The thesis is divided in two macro categories. In the first instance, a corpus-based taxonomy was created to analyse specific regionalisms and cultural references contained in the three seasons of the series. In the second part, a reception study was conducted, to examine the reception and perception of English-speaking viewers with regards to determined regionalisms and cultural references.
