Launching the RPS Karen Roberts Scholarship

TLDRoffon

This award is worth £5,000 for a new undergraduate student enrolled on BA Landscape Architecture.

For many students, applying to university can be a difficult and daunting decision. Financial barriers can limit student potential. We are grateful to RPS Group Plc who, for the next five years, are sponsoring a cash scholarship worth £5,000 to a student enrolled on the BA Landscape Architecture programme.

Their donation is in memory of former student and RPS employee, Karen Roberts.

The first recipient will be a new undergraduate enrolling in September 2023, with applications open until 22 May 2023. For eligibility criteria and further information about the Scholarship, please visit our website.

Landscape Architecture at Greenwich

Our landscape architecture degree is the only course of its kind in London and is accredited by the Landscape Institute. Teaching takes place in our state-of-the-art Stockwell Street Building, which has extensive design studios, a living wall and green roofs for teaching and research purposes.

Students study a range of approaches to landscape design, from public spaces to climate resilient waterfronts and from urban development to regional strategies. As well as design studio work, students learn about the history and theory of landscapes, ecology, conservation, and digital communication. The course supports employment opportunities in world-class landscape architecture practices around the world.

Speaking about the Scholarship and its impact, Academic Portfolio Lead of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism, Ed Wall, says:

The scholarship is an important commitment to young people and their exciting careers addressing environmental concerns. We are excited to be working with RPS Group Plc on this initiative.

RPS Group Plc

RPS Group Plc is a leading global professional services firm, working across six sectors: property, energy, transport, water, resources, defence and government services. Originally founded in 1970 by a group of Oxfordshire-based academics, they have since grown into a global organisation playing a leading role in raising awareness on the importance of balance to protect the environment itself and the welfare of the people living in it.

Supporting the next generation of landscape architects

In addition to the new Scholarship,  since 2018 the university has run the Future Cities Summer School with the aim of encouraging young people from underrepresented groups to consider studying and exploring careers within Landscape Architecture. In previous years, many of those who have attended the summer school have come from local schools and colleges across London and the Southeast.

The summer school is free, non-residential and gives young people the opportunity to gain experience working with industry professionals and university lecturers, and gain insight into studying Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at university. Young people can explore themes such as how our cities function through a range of different activities including sketching, drawing, model making, collages, and video.
