The University of Greenwich’s crowdfunding platform is open for applications

TLDRoffon

The Alumni and Fundraising Team is delighted to offer a free crowdfunding platform to Greenwich’s staff and students all year round.

Through crowdfunding, the Alumni and Fundraising Team is looking to support projects that enable students to experience university to its fullest and supports our values of being collaborative, impactful, and inclusive.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding at Greenwich relies on large groups of supporters coming together to support a wide range of projects to impact the lives of students, staff, and the wider community. Campaigns range from £200 to £2,000.

Success depends on leveraging your network to make donations and spread the word. Each individual gift, no matter how small, played its role in helping students and staff achieve their goals.

What are the benefits for students and staff?

Successful applicants will also be able to tap into a global network of over 120,000 contactable alumni and access the expertise of the Alumni and Fundraising Team. We offer fundraising support for individuals who embark on this journey and will actively help them to create compelling campaigns and strategies for reaching their fundraising targets.

Crowdfunding offers an innovative way to finance projects that brings us closer to the university’s strategic goals and enhance the student experience. Additionally, crowdfunding is an excellent way for students to develop skills, from marketing to project management and professional networking.

This is what students have said about their experience with our crowdfunding platform:

Abdirahman Ahmed, founder of Urban Rise Social Enterprise, raised £845 for his social enterprise:

Crowdfunding has opened up so many doors – sharing that I crowdfunded with my university and raised £845 was completely different. I have been able to get help from many organisations and build relationships off the back of this crowdfunding. At this early stage of starting Urban Rise, it has been my credibility card.

Within the last year, I have seen how big and helpful the community of Greenwich has been. The support has been incredible… I’m very excited about the future as it has opened doors that I thought were impossible or a few years away. Also, I believe in paying it forward, so I can provide value back as an alumnus when the time is ready.

How you can help

Perhaps the most important way you can help is letting us know about projects that require small amounts of funding.

You can also share this post below on your social media channels and with students to raise awareness:

Are you a current student or staff with an innovative idea or exciting project that needs funding? Applications are now open for @UniofGreenwich’s crowdfunding platform, supported by the @GreenwichAlumni team: https://giving.gre.ac.uk/pages/create #GreenwichGives

And finally, you can help by giving to one of our campaigns:

  • Sancho Memorial Appeal, help to continue Sancho's legacy into 2023 and beyond.
  • Bee Sustainable, a student-led project by Enactus Greenwich that aims to preserve the declining wild bee and bumblebee populations in London.
How do I apply?

If you are a current Greenwich student or staff member, read the guidelines and handbook on the crowdfunding platform, then submit an application. You can apply all year round– a benefit of crowdfunding at Greenwich is that there is no deadline. If successful, please note it may take up to 13 weeks from when you submit the application until you receive the funding.

If you have any questions, please email fundraising@gre.ac.uk.
