How I started my own business by age 21: Business studies, baking and mental health

TLDRoffon

Ella is from South-East London, who recently graduated from BA Events Management and started her own mental health business.

My name's Ella, I am 21, born and raised in South-East London. I have just graduated from the University of Greenwich BA Events Management course and did a sandwich year. I trained as a dancer for 4 years at The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology but after sustaining a knee injury I decided I wanted to go into business and management.

I have always visited Greenwich since a young age, especially at Christmas time, and have always been aware of the University. It was the last of five Universities that

I went to see during open-day season and I finally got the feeling I had been searching for, I clicked with it immediately and decided it was the one!

I am currently in the process of launching my start-up business (Bake Well Being) after winning the Social Category for the Enterprise Challenge in April. Since then, I have been working focusing on creating content for a range of social media platforms to create a buzz around the mission and to get people baking and talking about Mental Health and well-being. I have also created a Patreon for donations towards the business aims and mission and am contacting companies for sponsorship to fund the Bake Well Being space and my coaching and Mental Health qualifications. With this, I will soon be able to provide one-to-one sessions and group workshop providing professional support and advice while teaching individuals the joys, benefits, and skills of baking to improve feelings of self-esteem, achievement and reward.

The Generator team produced 6 workshops during the process of the competition, and this really encouraged and directed me in refining my business idea. We were also given the opportunity to create finance documents and conduct market research which was greatly beneficial towards shaping my idea.

In 5 years I see Bake Well Being as a nationally-known social enterprise, supporting the Mind Charity, and providing Mental Health and baking workshops and coaching in schools, workplaces and at events and festivals.
