One Year, Big Impact: Nushara’s Journey in Logistics and Supply Chain

Meet Nushara Perera, an MA Logistics & Supply Chain Management student at the University of Greenwich.

“It’s not just about efficiency - it’s about humanity”. That’s how Nushara - who came to Greenwich with a background in global business - started to view the sector while a student on our MA in Logistics & Supply Chain Management.

“I was looking for a course that wasn’t just theory-heavy but also had real industry relevance, and Greenwich ticked all the boxes.”

Real-world learning and industry-relevant accreditation

What stood out most to her about the MA? Nushara cites two things - the degree’s accreditation (the MA is accredited by CIPS (the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) and also CILT (the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport) and also the interactive teaching style she experienced, with small tutorial groups and hands-on projects bringing theory to life.

Tackling modern slavery in supply chains

A standout experience for Nushara was the chance to get involved in a consultancy project with the University’s Procurement Team, which focused on mitigating modern slavery risks - “this wasn’t just a classroom assignment - it had a real-world impact.” Her team analysed procurement strategies, identified ethical risks, and proposed auditing processes to protect vulnerable workers. “It reminded me that supply chains are not just systems - they involve real people.”

Tools, techniques, and teamwork

From using simulation tools to test the reactions of supply chains to different situations - “It’s one thing to learn the theory, but seeing it play out makes a big difference" - to exploring lean and agile supply chain practices, Nushara gained a sound feel for how the supply chain world really works.

She also felt that the chance to work with classmates with a diversity of backgrounds gave a great insight into what it might be like to work in international teams - something she notes as important, given the industry's global nature.

“I’ve definitely become more confident with presenting ideas, managing time, and thinking critically when there’s no ‘perfect’ answer.”

Advice for future students: be present, be curious

Looking back, Nushara reflects on how quickly the year flew by and how important it is to embrace every moment. “Say 'yes' to things outside the classroom. Join a club, go to networking events, take lots of pictures, and don’t feel guilty about taking a break when you need it”.

Her advice? Use every resource, ask questions, and don’t wait to get involved!

“Coming here as an international student was overwhelming at first… but the community at Greenwich is genuinely warm and supportive.

I came here hoping to grow professionally, and I’m leaving with so much more: new friendships, new perspectives, and memories I’ll carry with me forever.”
