Still time to apply for September
It was Maya’s music teacher who recognised Maya’s appreciation of patterns, symmetry and structures. This drew Maya towards the subject of mathematics, and she eventually set herself the goal of one day working as an actuary.
On Results Day in 2019, Maya’s grades were not as expected. But Maya was not disheartened. Instead, she contacted the University of Greenwich to enquire about mathematics programmes, and she was told she had met the entry requirements to join a foundation programme.
I remember speaking to Tony Mann on the phone. He told me about the courses with foundation years. I knew immediately it was the right choice for me.
The University of Greenwich has many courses available to study with a foundation year.
A university that helps you succeed
Maya is proud of her decision to join the University of Greenwich. She has taken advantage of excellent opportunities, from listening to talks from employers or Greenwich mathematics alumni set up by the Mathematics Department or the university’s Employability Team, to delivering a presentation on the history of mathematics in the East as part of an external conference. She has also acted as a student representative for her course.
Our lecturers and tutors are extremely helpful and engaging. They often go out of their way to make sure we succeed and perform to the best of our abilities.
Maya has also found opportunities through volunteering as the Social Media Officer for the Middle Eastern and North African Society. Being a member of a society has also allowed her to meet new people.
All tariff-based qualifications considered
The University of Greenwich accepts BTEC Nationals and A-Levels and considers all tariff-based qualifications. Up to date entry requirements for each subject can be found on the subject pages of the website.
For Maya, an application to Greenwich through Clearing has been wholly worth it, and she now feels prepared to enter the world of work.
The best part about studying at Greenwich is how well we are prepared to go on to our careers. I have seen the potential in myself to do great things.
