Get inspired by the University of Greenwich
During ICT lessons in secondary school, Roel was introduced to coding and enjoyed his class projects. He had heard about the University of Greenwich through family friends, but after learning that a teacher was an alum of its BSc Computer Science course, Roel was intrigued further and so signed up for an Open Day, open to all, and an Offer Holder Event – an exciting event held exclusively for prospective students with an offer from the university.
These events allowed Roel to explore the Greenwich Campus and the facilities within the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. He was impressed by what he saw, in particular the breadth of support services offered by the university, and he describes being able to picture himself studying and learning in the university’s study spaces and computer laboratories.
Roel lives locally to the Medway Campus, and so he was reassured to know that as a University of Greenwich student he would be able to also utilise the facilities on the Medway Campus, including the Drill Hall Library, and the university’s inter-campus bus service to travel to and from his studies in Greenwich.
Gain essential knowledge
The University of Greenwich has a large number of computing and computer science degree courses in its portfolio, including specialised courses. BSc Computer Science offers a range of optional modules in the second and third year, meaning students can select the modules most relevant to their interests or aspirations.
Computer science is the study of computers and the software which encompasses it all. You'll be learning everything about the devices you take for granted every day and how they are used, from programming to software engineering and more.
Roel’s favourite module has been Principles of Software Engineering and he has valued the project management experience his studies have offered him. His own aspiration is to develop an app to support mental health and wellbeing.
Be part of our welcoming community
Roel has found many opportunities at Greenwich. His work as a Student Ambassador has seen him supporting the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences during Open Days, a role that has seen him come ‘full circle’ since being inspired himself as an aspiring computer scientist at an open event with the university.
When you join the University of Greenwich you become part of a very diverse community of students from very different backgrounds all over the world… I’ve been having the time of my life here, meeting new people, experiencing new things and making new memories.
