Get insights from current students at an Open Day
I am a local student to the Medway Campus. I studied my undergraduate degree at the Medway School of Pharmacy between 2015 and 2020. This year I completed my postgraduate degree, MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the University of Greenwich, and I will now be starting a PhD in skin drug delivery with Dr Ana-Maria Totea as my supervisor after being successful with an application through the university website.
I chose to study my Master’s in Pharmacy (MPharm) with the Medway School of Pharmacy due to the exceptional level of teaching. Whilst visiting the scenic and historic campuses of the University of Greenwich during Open Days, a lot of helpful advice was given to me from students currently studying at the University. Consequently, I wanted to return to do my postgraduate study degree here.
Make positive impacts to public health and wellbeing
The world of pharmaceutical sciences is ever-changing, with extensive career paths branching and contributing to the development of novel medications impacting on people’s quality of lives and wellbeing.
From undergoing a plethora of placements in hospital and community during my undergraduate year and completing my pre-registration year as a foundation year pharmacist, I believed I could accomplish and aid the public more in the fields of pharmaceutical research and discovery. In this field, not only can one aid healthy patients in maintaining their wellbeing, but they could provide people with a high risk of morbidity to regain their health. Thus, this field could lead to a potentially life-changing career.
During my MPharm degree as well as my postgraduate degree, my knowledge in the world of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences was broadened. These skills aided my personal development, enabling me to reach my full potential. I feel my attention to detail and laboratory skills will be highly beneficial in my future career, making me more conscious of my actions and helping my career in long run.
The highlight of completing my Master’s degrees at Greenwich has been the chance to meet so many people and make life-long friends. I have also had the opportunity to be taught by some amazing lecturers.
Complete your PhD with a project you are passionate about
I chose to study skin drug delivery for my PhD as I am fascinated by the largest organ of the human body being the skin and the conditions and factors that affect it. My project will involve making nanoparticles that will act as carriers for drugs that will target basal cell carcinoma or early-stage melanoma. The objective for this project will be for people to increase understanding of the anatomy of the skin and products available to treat acne, eczema, and more.
With regards to my next journey, I am extremely excited in increasing my knowledge from my two Master’s degrees by participating and researching in topics more specialised in the field of skin drug delivery.
The University of Greenwich offers MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences, MSc Formulation Science and the chance to apply for postgraduate research degrees. The Medway School of Pharmacy also welcomes PhD applications.
