Taufique Azad’s passion for gaming started when he was 14 and got his own laptop.
“I spent hours playing online and was drawn to learning about IT. I knew that I wanted to be a software engineer”.
An international student, Taufique chose to use an agent to assist him with his application. His decision to apply for the Computer Engineering (Extended) BEng course at the University of Greenwich was affirmed when he saw their worldwide ranking and the extended pathway gave him the extra base of knowledge he needed to begin his dream degree course.
Blended learning was in place when he arrived at university, as it was during the pandemic. “I adjusted to blended learning nicely. Thanks to the University of Greenwich and the tutors for keeping the students updated with the new approaches to each module. Knowing which modules were in person or online helped me stay organised and allow the flow of our timetables.”
Now he is in his second year of studying at the Medway Campus.
“I love the Medway Campus. It can be quiet at times which, I believe, really helps with concentration. The Drill Hall library is one of my favourite places to be. It’s amazing in there.”
It doesn’t have to be just a dream
At one stage, my ideas seemed unachievable. Was it going to be too hard to move to another country, with no friends and just a dream of becoming an engineer?
But when he arrived, he soon made friends. He joined the Bangladeshi society and became the sports manager. He saw this as a way to keep fit, and balance his study time with social activities Now, he is a student ambassador, developing his skills in networking, communication and leadership skills. “This is a great way to work as an employee while studying, making new connections and telling more people about the university.”
Taufique also joined The SPARK Mentoring Scheme at the Medway Campus which gave him opportunity to meet industry professionals and gain guidance to support his career development.
“In my opinion, there is no alternative to hard work to become the best in this field.”
