Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a broad field
Prior to starting my studies with the University of Greenwich, I worked as a guitarist in the music industry. I noticed I received more enjoyment from learning about how the equipment I was using worked more so than using it. In an effort to satisfy my interests, I decided to learn about the inner workings of guitar effects pedals, a type of audio processing unit used by guitarists.
Through my interest, I was able to learn the fundamentals of audio circuits, building my own guitar effects units. This interest led me on the path to study electronic engineering, where I would learn how broad this field of engineering is.
A smooth Clearing process
I applied to the university through Clearing. The Clearing process was easy, and it really helped to put my mind at ease at a time of immense stress.
I was searching for an opportunity in a STEM-related subject, where I could maximise and develop my skills in problem-solving and logical thinking. Engineering as a career wasn’t on my radar during my school years, and it certainly wasn’t where I thought my career would end up in. After assessing the possibilities that were available to me, only one grabbed my attention – Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Greenwich. As I was reading through the programme outline, my excitement grew with every word; I knew this was the choice for me.
The university has a family heritage for me, too, with my mother completing her degree in Computer Science here.
The ‘University of Greenwich’ name is one that is renowned worldwide, acting as another deciding factor for me to complete my studies here.
An unforgettable university experience
As a foundation year student, I have had huge satisfaction in experiencing my knowledge base grow year-on-year, discovering new things every day.
My experience studying at the University of Greenwich has been unforgettable. I have been able to explore in-depth a field in which I am passionate about, with the help and guidance from excellent teachers.
The lectures have been captivating, often leaving me wanting more, and I have been able to demonstrate skills I once thought were unobtainable for someone in my previous profession, working on complex problems that I never dreamed I would be able to solve.
Electrical and Electronic Engineering encompasses a variety of different disciplines within the field of engineering. It explores the principles of operation for every electronic device or systems we use in our daily lives. The work ranges from analysing and designing electrical circuits to unravelling the techniques used for our modern-day communication systems.
Finally, I have made many fantastic friends throughout my studies from a variety of different engineering disciplines, all of whom I hope to work with again during my professional life.
