Three Minute Thesis - 3MT® Competition - 2020

Congratulations to the winners of the 2020 Three Minute Thesis competition, Karifa Sanfo and Gwen Varley.

Congratulations to our winners, Karifa Sanfo and Gwen Varley.

Our three finalists, selected by judges from faculty heats, were:

  1. Hazel Wallace-Williams (Faculty of Education, Health & Human Sciences) - Wellbeing and Resilience: Student Nurses and Midwives
  2. Karifa Sanfo (Faculty of Engineering & Science) - Sun + Water = Green Energy
  3. Gwen Varley (Faculty of Engineering & Science) - How do you measure women's empowerment?
The live final was held on Teams with more than 150 people attending the event. Due to current restrictions, each of the finalists recorded their three minute thesis', which just added to the long list of the rules that our finalists had to adhere to, including only being able to use a single static PowerPoint slide with no slide transitions or animations.

The competition was developed by The University of Queensland in 2008 as a challenge for PhD students, and has spread world-wide. It's estimated that an 80,000 word thesis would take nine hours to present, so congratulations to our winners and to everyone who took part in the competition at all stages.
