On Tuesday 29 July 2026 we were delighted to bring together staff apprentices, their managers, mentors and supporters from across the University to celebrate staff who have completed their apprenticeship.
Gail Brindley, Group Chief People Officer opened the event reminding attendees of the strategic value of apprenticeships as a key investment in our people and congratulating the apprentices on their commitment to learning.
We are proud to see our apprenticeship community grow. Apprenticeships create real impact on organisational success. They enable colleagues to gain new knowledge and skills, bring fresh thinking to challenges, and support innovation and continuous improvement across our services. Today is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate our apprentices. Their commitment, determination and willingness to learn are truly inspiring. We also want to acknowledge the managers and mentors who support them. Your encouragement, coaching and dedication create the environment in which apprentices can succeed and reach their full potential.
Gail Brindley, Group Chief People Officer
Anna Mcmenamin, Associate Director of Employability and Apprenticeships presented an important reminder of the value and impact of apprenticeships, sharing the history of apprenticeships and future growth. Before certificates were presented attendees heard from Lesley Morrison, Head of Accommodation and Active Life Services, who shared her apprenticeship experience of overcoming challenge and building a stronger community across new areas of the University. Lesley highlighted the positive bonds built within the cohort of learners, enabling new ideas and growing new collaborations. After certificates were issued, attendees spent time networking- continuing to build the apprenticeship community.
