Register with a GP at your term time address so that you can get vaccinated

It’s important that you are registered with a GP nearby, so that you don’t have to travel home for your Covid-19 vaccine. International students can also register with a UK GP to access vaccinations and other medical services.

It is expected that students in England - both home and international - will be offered Covid-19 vaccinations from the end of May in line with current NHS England planning for age groups under 30 years old. According to the current guidance, people under 30 will be offered either a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

To help with this process, it is important that you are registered with a GP in the area where you are living in term time. When the time comes, text reminders will be sent to students who are registered, asking you to book your vaccinations.

We know that many students will want to travel home to your families over the summer break, so we are working with the local councils in Greenwich and Medway to help you to get your vaccinations as quickly as possible. Registering with a local GP will help us streamline this process and may also help the university to organise vaccinations in conjunction with the councils.

International students

The updated guidance for universities confirms that international students who live in the UK and are registered with a GP will be able to access the Covid-19 vaccine, just as you are currently able to access healthcare. Please make sure that you register with a local GP.

In exceptional circumstances, international students who have received a first dose of vaccine outside the UK are able to receive their second dose in the UK, even if that vaccine is not available in the UK.
