Our recent partnership with Discovery Park

The university has partnered with Discovery Park to encourage a diverse and inclusive STEM community for future generations within Kent.

Discovery Park is a leading science park driving improvements in healthcare through innovation and collaboration located at a site in Sandwich, Kent.

Recently, colleagues from the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Science and Natural Resources Institute came together at Discovery Park to showcase the fantastic teaching and research done across the departments at the university.

Discovery Park Partnership

Discovery Park’s new Head of Innovation, Renos Savva and a number of tenants from within the park met with Dr Peter Griffiths, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Faculty whom alongside Martino Picardo CEO of Discovery Park, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlines the key actions and activities to achieve a successful partnership.

The partnership will aim to achieve several key goals:

  • Community engagement, including volunteering projects, careers events and campaigns to promote science.
  • Work placements and workshops and/or bootcamps for university staff and students.
  • Degree apprenticeships in a wide variety of industry related roles.
  • Funding opportunities for Black and minority students and Women in Tech.
  • Career and skills development of Discovery Park staff through HTCs and other bite-size or modular courses that allow a diverse range of learners to acquire and utilise new knowledge.

The partnership also includes collaborative work with the University of Kent and Canterbury Christchurch University to really showcase and ensure Kent becomes a beacon for science, innovation, and technology.
