Are you looking for help structuring, referencing or proofreading your work? We have plenty of support available to you over the exam and assessment period.

Are you looking for help structuring, referencing or proofreading your work? As you prepare for the Exam and Assessment period, we are here for you with specialist workshops, extended one-to-one appointments and new workshops created specifically to help you find resources for your subject. These sessions run from 27 March to 27 April, with a break during the w/c 10 April.

Our Academic Support team continue to support you with workshops and appointments on a wide range of topics. As we come up to the exam period, our focus turns to exam and assignment support.

Essay and Assignment preparation

What databases should I use? – A brand new session for those unsure about where to start searching for resources best suited to their subject.

Selecting Good Quality Sources? – For those who wish to understand what makes a good quality source, David Bedford runs an engaging session using the BREAD method.

Systematic searching in Health for Literature Reviews – For Health Students who have a literature review included in their dissertation, this session is a must.

Orbis and Eikon – Two sessions dedicated to specialist business databases, run by Ros Smith.

What is Critical Thinking? – Take part in activities and discussion to help you get to grips with the concept of critical thinking to help you prepare for exams and assignments.

Structuring your argument – Learn to create an outline and build a coherent, effective argument using your research.

Preparing and delivering your presentation – Two new sessions created to help you make and give the best presentations possible.

Preparing your work for submission

Paraphrasing – learn how you can use paraphrasing effectively and use your research to build a coherent, effective argument.

Proofreading and editing your own work – how to improve your proof-reading skills and identify ways to improve your work before submission.

Harvard Referencing - how to reference sources using the Harvard system and write ideas in your own words to avoid plagiarism. These sessions will introduce you to referencing and give you a chance to ask questions about referencing in your own work.

Reference Management Tools – How to develop good referencing habits using online referencing tools including Mendeley.

Submitting your work with TurnItIn – A session dedicated to proofreading and submission through TurnItIn.

Exam preparation and support

Revision and exam techniques – This session will set your mind at ease regarding exams, and covers best practice in terms of revision and being there on the day.

Writing for exams – Find out how to write under exam conditions, what your exam markers are looking for and how you should approach this kind of test.

Extenuating circumstances claim workshops - Sometimes circumstances outside of your control might stop you from being able to undertake these assessments or to do them to the best of your ability.  The Advice team at GSU will walk you through the extenuating circumstances claim process, which is how you let us know. Workshops available online or in-person at Greenwich.

Extended 1-2-1s and weekend sessions

We have extended one to one appointments into the evening, with more staff available to help you in our Drop-in Appointments. You can also book a 1 to 1 tutorial with an academic skills tutor, subject librarian or digital champion who can provide support on assignments, preparing for exams or writing your dissertation.
