Uni aims to raise £3,000 for Sport Relief

Students and staff at the University of Greenwich will be rowing 2020 miles between now and 13 March to raise money for Sport Relief.

The national Row Britannia challenge is an inclusive mental health, fitness and wellbeing event run by the British Inspiration Trust (BIT).

If all colleges and universities in the UK take part, the BIT hopes to raise over £1.5m.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Jane Harrington, will be rowing one of the first miles in the challenge, along with President of the Greenwich Students' Union, Henry Setter.

The university is hoping to encourage local partners, businesses and residents to get involved too.

Professor Harrington said: "We aren't looking for a Sir Steve Redgrave or Helen Glover to join our team - we just want individuals who are passionate about supporting others and making a difference to people's lives.

"You could row a couple of hundred metres, provide a prize for a raffle, or make a donation towards the team effort. Whatever you can do to support us would be welcome!"

Henry added: "To row Oar not to row, that is the question. Donate, row or come along and cheer your mates on. Let's smash this target!"

The team row challenge will be taking place across the university's three campuses in Greenwich, Avery Hill and Medway with celebratory events on 22 January, 24 February and 5 March.
