Waste impacts us all, and from the individual to large business, everyone produces it. From your typical domestic house waste and recycling to hazardous clinical, chemical, and electrical equipment, we have a diverse set of waste streams here at Greenwich.
But, do you know where to put that crisp packet, coffee cup or vape? Awareness is crucial for us to achieve higher recycling rates, but can we facilitate that in an innovative way? Yes we can; we have recently partnered with Bold Donut to produce Recycle Right, our new candy crush stylised game, aiming to test your knowledge on all things waste and recycling.
Completely anonymous, and web-based, can you climb to the top of the leaderboard? For staff, students and main contractors, you will see this game pop-up in a variety of ways over the next few months.
From training to events, this resources gives us an additional tool to aid in spreading awareness and puts us on a better path in reaching our 70% recycling rate target, working alongside other innovations and waste reduction projects as mentioned in Our Waste Action Plan to 2030.

David Jackson, Sustainability Manager says:
There remains a lot of mis-information and confusion when it comes to recycling in the UK, and closer to home here in Greenwich. Engagement is crucial, with interactive learning a must-have in modern day strategies. Partnering with Bold Donut in the creation of Recycle Right creates a new environment for participants to learn with an innovative approach to testing and enhancing knowledge.
Kate Williams, Co-Founder of Bold Donut says:
Bold Donut is on a mission to increase climate friendly actions like recycling and reuse by making it fun and easy to learn about waste with our Candy Crush style games! We're kicking off the New Year by encouraging some friendly competition on campus with the first edition of the University of Greenwich Waste Game, "Recycle Right". Check it out now to show what you know and get your name on the leaderboard!
