The World Reimagined Globes form part of a ground-breaking exhibition that invites all of us to explore how we understand our shared past and present, so we can all play a role in creating a future where racial justice is a reality.
The university has purchased nine of these unique works of art, to showcase the compelling narratives of resilience, creativity and progress told by each Globe.
We are dedicated to making social justice a reality. That calls on us all to courageously face our shared history with honesty, empathy and grace so we can create a new future in which all can say: I am seen. By fully celebrating the rich tapestry of our shared history we create limitless possibilities for our future. – The World Reimagined.
The launch of ‘The World Reimagined' (TWR) Globes on our 3 campuses, as part of Black History 365, is a significant moment. The project is dedicated to promoting racial justice and rectifying the untold history of Britain's involvement in transatlantic slavery. It aligns perfectly with our University's Race Action Plan, supporting a decolonised agenda and promoting inclusivity and culture as foundational elements in all we do. We hope the Globes will unite us as a university community, encouraging difficult conversations about who we are as a society. Our heartfelt gratitude to TWR and everyone who played a role in turning this project into a reality. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment have been instrumental in bringing our vision to life. - Dr Myrtle Emmanuel, Jas Seehra-Pearce & Shirley Joseph.
The nine World Reimagined Globes will be installed across each of our campuses and unveiled week commencing 6 November. We encourage all staff and student to join the unveiling events, learn more about the Globes and the unique art relating to the nine themes of the Journey of Discovery.
The themes, ranging from ‘Mother Africa’, through to ‘The Reality of Being Enslaved’ & ‘Echoes in the Present’, give us the opportunity to re-imagine our past, present, and future.
Three globes will be displayed as a capsule collection at locations across our Greenwich, Avery Hill and Medway campuses.
Join us as we recognise the importance of our shared history and encourage conversations around creating a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
