Leading social enterprise organisation to recognise Professor Louise Owusu-Kwarteng

Professor Louise Owusu-Kwarteng, Associate Dean Student Success FLASS, will be recognised by KINSIS as a Star to Spotlight for her longstanding work relating to race and education

KINSIS is a multi-award-winning social enterprise grounded in both research and lived experience. Their flagship programme focuses explicitly on closing the Ethnicity Awarding Gap as experienced by Black students through end-to-end supplementary programming to improve student outcomes, experiences and job prospects.

Professor Owusu-Kwarteng’s work began shortly after she finished university, when she was an advocate, and latterly ran a Nottingham based mentoring project supporting young Black and Minority Ethnic students who were at risk of school exclusion and/or were working towards post 16 qualifications (e.g BTECS/Modern Apprenticeships).

After completing her Masters Project, she worked at Oxford City Council as a community development officer, and one aspect of her work included facilitating shadowing between local politicians from all parties, and refugees.

Once she arrived at the University of Greenwich in 2005, she used her previous experience to inform her work around general student experience, and also addressing awarding differences.

Louise has been a tireless advocate, within the organisation and beyond, providing support and mentorship to others.

Louise has also undertaken a considerable amount of research on ethnicity, identity, and auto/biography, which she has spoken about in a range of arenas and forums, many of which have adopted her approach as blueprints for their own work with students.

In light of these achievements, along with others, she will be celebrated at the KINSIS 10 Year Anniversary Gala Dinner on Saturday, 21st February 2026.
