Sunday 6 November was Trans Parents Day, which was first established in 2009. The day celebrates transgender, non-binary and gender nonconforming parents and also those parenting transgender children.
This is one way that LGBT+ families can be recognised, and we would like to encourage any transgender, non-binary, gender nonconfirming parents and parents of transgender children to join the LGBT+ community parents group.
Join our LGBT+ community parents group
Members of the LGBT+ community are forming a parents group to share their diverse experiences and challenges of parenting to better understand the effectiveness of the university's work culture, its compatibility with parenting responsibilities and what kinds of support will help improve the lives of the LGBT+ parenting community.
Members of the group have diverse experiences of parenting. Some are parenting in LGBT+ partnerships, others are managing the care of young people going through transgender transition, while others may not identify as LGBT+ themselves but are raising children who do.
If you are a parent sharing some connection to the issues of the group, we are offering a safe forum for you to share your experiences as part of the LGBT+ community to help support one another and find ways to inform the improvement of the university’s work culture through its policies and management.
