The steam engine, built in the early 1900s was used when the HMS Pembroke Royal Naval Barracks was being built. Students and staff are invited to come and see this excellent example of early 20th century engineering.

The Lord Roberts

It was used to bring bricks from the local brickyard to the campus which were used in the construction of the buildings, and will be photographed outside the iconic buildings it helped construct.

You can view this excellent example of early 20th century engineering:

  • 12.30pm (ish) in front of Hawke building
  • 2-2.30pm outside the Student Hub

Students and staff, in particular engineering students, are encouraged to come and take a look and see how it works.  We're keen to see your pictures of part of our campus history, so remember to tag us @uniofgreenwich on social media.
