Contribute to our research project: Managing your wellbeing during Covid-19

TLDRoffon

The project covers four areas: activities for happiness, coping with social restrictions, exercise for wellbeing and managing mental health while studying - and contains activities which you may find helpful, even if you choose not to complete the survey after all.

Though of course we hope you will complete the anonymous survey after taking part in one or more of the activities for a week or so, as what you tell us will inform our Institute for Lifecourse Development research project, which is designed to provide some guidance on potential ways to manage your wellbeing.

There is very little research published yet to tell us what works best for different people during these times. For that reason, we want to collect data on how this guide and the activities it suggests works for you during the lockdown.

How you can take part: Try one or more of the suggested activities

Our Managing your wellbeing during Covid-19 project page contains videos and slides which explain more about each of the following four areas.

1. Activities for happiness

This section looks at positive psychology interventions that can help us to foster happiness and be more resilient to depression and anxiety.

2. Coping with social restrictions

This section looks at social psychology and applies what we know about social psychology and applies what we know about social exclusion and ostracism effects to the social restrictions of lockdown.

3. Exercise for wellbeing

This section looks at sport and exercise psychology and aims to help you to approach exercise in a way that will maximise the wellbeing benefits for you. We will look at goal setting and motivation as well as self-compassion and body image.

4. Managing mental health whilst studying

This section was produced for a larger, ongoing project on mental health whilst studying at university. It applies positive psychology to using strengths, values and meaning to set goals and progress in a way that allows us to thrive.

It has been adapted for the current crisis and whilst it was designed for students it is also applicable for various types of work where we need to motivate ourselves and stay positive, which could be a challenge for some people working remotely.

Complete the anonymous survey

Please take part in one or more of these activities for a week or so and return to complete the anonymous survey. The survey is anonymous, and you can sign up to receive a reminder about the survey.

You are welcome to make use of these materials and the activities they contain to manage your wellbeing.  We would very much like you to complete the survey if you are able to, to aid our research project.

For more information about the project, the activities and the survey please see the Research Project page.
