Dr Norbert Singer was Director of Thames Polytechnic from 1978 and the founding Vice-Chancellor of University of Greenwich until his retirement in 1993. His contribution to Higher Education was rewarded with a CBE in 1990 and he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by the university in 1993.
Colleagues remember him as a "remarkable and respected first Vice-Chancellor of the University" who was "highly personable, providing a strong sense of leadership."
