One of the things I committed to doing when I joined the university, after meeting and talking to many of you, was a review of our committee structure and decision-making process.
I’m really pleased to confirm that we have now undertaken a full governance review. The outcome of this review is a new structure that I am confident will help us deliver our Strategy 2030.
We’re introducing a new Strategy Programme Board and Boards for People, Capital Programmes, Student Success, Research and Knowledge Exchange and Strategic Business Partnerships, which will oversee our sub- and enabling strategies.
There will also be new Faculty Forums for briefing and discussion, to promote engagement at Faculty level and align discussions across the university.
This new structure will give clarity about the roles, remits and relationships between all committees and ensure our governance structure enables us to achieve the ambitions set out in our Strategy 2030 as well as clear milestones and evidence of progress in our journey. The new structure will ensure decision making at the appropriate level creating a clear line of responsibility.
Many of you have also told me that there are too many meetings happening at the university, so I hope that this leaner structure will also reduce some of the burden on your time. Fewer committees, with small memberships, will also mean that we will need to find new ways of working together to ensure we continue to share information and give opportunities for feedback.
