No Comprendo was named Best Documentary at the Royal Television Society (RTS) London Student TV Awards this week.

Director Bukola Bakinson (pictured) graduated with a degree in Film and TV studies in 2021. She says: “When I heard what is happening in the criminal justice system to mostly people of African and Caribbean descent and vulnerable people, I couldn't sit still.

“There are endless vital stories to tell. I am grateful that No Comprendo is a story that is being recognised. Let us not forget, it is not just a story - it is a real-life experience that is still a huge problem.”

The short documentary is showing at the Women of the Lens film festival on Saturday 30 April at Rich Mix cinema, Shoreditch. Tickets are available at @becoming_bukola. It has been selected for two other international film festivals: the British Urban Film Festival, The Documentary Filmmaker Showcase.

The RTS is a prestigious educational charity that hosts awards for professionals and up-and-coming talent. The RTS Student Television Awards encourages and supports students in colleges and universities to create film and video content.
