South East London Action Learning (SEAL) Programme - join our briefing session on 24 November

TLDRoffon

This is an opportunity for the women of Greenwich to develop their skills in a Higher Education Action Learning Set.

Supporting and developing our staff is crucial to the future success of the university, we are therefore delighted to invite women of Greenwich, in both professional services and academic roles, to join an exciting external development opportunity.

Programme Benefits

We are offering up to eight places on an innovative action learning programme for Universities, South East Action Learning (SEAL). We are keen to encourage applications from women seeking support with their career development challenges and opportunities, whether in academic or professional services roles.

We will participate in this project alongside: Anglia Ruskin, Canterbury Christ Church, Westminster, Goldsmiths, Queen Mary, University of London and Royal Veterinary College. You will work in a mixed cohort with colleagues from the other participating institutions, so this is a great opportunity to advance your development and extend your networks.

Programme Logistics & Application

Details of all meeting dates are given on the taking part pages of the website and the programme will be launched on 31st January 2023; the majority of the sessions are run virtually with a face to face final meeting planned in June 2023. Places on the programme are centrally funded by the participating Universities.  If you wish to apply you will need the support of your line manager as it is essential that you can commit to attend all the session dates.

The SEAL website gives full details of the programme and, importantly, the opportunity to sign up.  If you would like to apply for a place on the programme you must by Friday 9th December 2022.  Places will be allocated based on application requirements around your desire to develop and to embed action learning skills back into your community.

Find out more

To find out more about the programme we will be holding a briefing session on Thursday 24th November, which will be an opportunity for you to hear more about action learning as a development tool, hear from SEAL alumni about their experience on the programme and ask any questions you may have about SEAL. If you are interested in attending, you can sign up via Horizon.

About Action Learning

Action learning is a collaborative development method that consistently demonstrates that the most effective learning takes place when we are faced with a ‘live’ problem to solve. By running this as a cross-institution process, it also offers the valuable opportunity to work with peers from other universities in the South East and be outward-facing in our thinking and perspectives.

Participants will work in a mixed cohort from the other participating institutions and, dependent on number of participants, would not normally be matched with anyone from their own university. This enables SEAL to offer a confidential space to tackle complex challenges and gain the support of your peers in taking action to address them.

The process is carefully structured, and each cohort will be supported by a skilled Facilitator. We recommend taking a few moments to look through the Guide to Action learning in HE, downloadable from the SEAL resources pages.

If you have any queries about the SEAL programme, or the application process, please contact Sian Atkins directly and she will happily discuss this exciting development opportunity with you.
