The ‘Realising your Potential’ alumni panel was the third instalment of the Start Strong, Stay Strong programme of events. We were delighted to welcome University of Greenwich alumnae Rochelle Tomlinson and Shabina Begum to share their stories of inspiration, growth and resilience, and provide their insights on:
- What resources are open to you at university and beyond
- How broad your career options can really be
- How to get your first job in the industry and how to overcome common obstacles
- The importance of building a network and where to start
Speaker: Rochelle Tomlinson
Rochelle graduated in 2008 with a degree in Childhood Studies. Currently Rochelle works as a Family Support Worker for the Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Support Project. Utilising over 15 years of experience working with children, Rochelle supports parents and families through their children’s diagnoses.
While studying for her degree, Rochelle took advantage of various working opportunities across the University. By working as a student ambassador, in the accommodation office and as a resident advisor she was able to gain a wealth of experience and build her professional network.
Speaker: Shabina Begum
Shabina graduated in 2008 with a degree in Law. Shabina is a Family Law Consultant for Dawson Cornwell, and a part-time lecturer at the University of Greenwich. Shabina is a UN recognised authority on child, early and forced marriage, and was featured in in Management Today's "35 Women Under 35, 2020 " List of Britain's Brightest Young Business Leaders.
While studying for her degree, Shabina was encouraged to think outside the box and take practical steps to enhance her career and skills.
