Reduce your impact on the environment and win ice cream with the Student Switch Off

TLDRoffon

The halls of residence that saves the most energy, does the most recycling and gets most involved in the campaign will win a free delivery of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Everyone can do their bit to help the environment and we think a great place to start is with simple energy saving and recycling actions. Student Switch Off is a competition that all residents of halls are a part of, with prizes given away every couple of weeks which you can win by entering competitions on our Facebook page.

Here are a few easy energy saving tips to get you started:

  • Switch off lights and appliances when not in use in your room
  • Put a lid on pans when cooking (this saves time as well as energy)
  • Layer up instead of turning the heating up
  • Don't overfill the kettle

Don't forget to recycle well too. You can check the recycling bins for details of what can and can't be recycled or go to our Recycle Right page.
Last year, 28% of students in halls pledged their support and saved enough energy to make 408,844 cups of tea. We can't wait to see what you can do.

Here's how to get involved:

  1. Like the University of Greenwich Student Switch Off Facebook page
  2. Sign up to our mailing list
  3. Hold the date for the ambassador training sessions, find out more and register here
  4. Take our quiz to improve your sustainability knowledge and to be entered into the prize draw for ice cream
