Black History Month is an annual event in October that has become an important date in the cultural calendar of many universities and other organisations in the UK.
The focus of Black History Month has expanded over the years to bring together Black, Asian and other minority ethnic (BAME) communities to celebrate diversity, culture, heritage, and achievements. Inspired by the 2020 Black Lives Matter events, the campaign slogan to mark Black History Month 2021 is “Proud to Be”.
The BAME Staff Network and the Centre for Applied Sociology are hosting a range of webinars and activities in line with this theme. Black History Month 2021 also aims to promote and celebrate BAME contributions to the university and to society, and it will attract attention from a wider audience.
