The competition, which is currently running, ends on 30 November and the winning university receives a free Hedgehog House complete with a bag of hedgehog food.
Cleaning up the environment, especially the natural spaces, is vital to ensuring the local wildlife has a safe place to live, eat and sleep. The presence of hedgehogs on a campus indicates a healthy eco-system, which is why we work towards being Hedgehog Accredited as well as taking part in this competition.
As a result of all the hard work over the past few years, including the litter picks that occurred on and around our campuses, we had reports of hedgehogs back on campus, making it even more important to keep our campuses rubbish free.
We are proud to report we have been runners up in the competition for the past two years and this year we are aiming for 1st place. With the volunteer’s hard work last year, we collected 70 bags of rubbish from 42 volunteers help.
Litter pick packs
Litter pick packs are available for anyone wanting to be involved and we will be releasing dates in the coming weeks for group litter pick sessions, over our social media and emails.
You can collect rubbish from your home area or on/around campus and then can email sustainability@gre.ac.uk a photo of each bag of rubbish they collect to be used as evidence towards the competition.
