A new exhibition, The Landscapists, has opened to the public at University of Greenwich. Set in the Stephen Lawrence gallery, the exhibition explores the practices employed as contemporary landscapes are produced.

It has developed from contributions to The Landscapists: Redefining Landscape Relations, an issue of Architectural Design guest-edited by Ed Wall, Associate Professor of Cities and Landscapes at the University of Greenwich.Landscapists

Ed Wall said:

“The Landscapists sets out that landscapes are made and remade through interrelations between people and the worlds around them – from geographers investigating the lives of urban wastelands to landscape architects projecting future cities, and from migrants navigating border systems to artists working with local residents.

“In contrast to tendencies to emphasise the physical forms of landscapes, with their potential to be redesigned and represented in drawings, The Landscapists brings to the forefront the social structure of landscapes by focusing on a range of practices and daily actions. As conventional frames of landscape are challenged, other ways of measuring, mapping, imagining, designing, building and occupying them are revealed.’

The exhibition has been curated by Ed Wall, Emma Colthurst and Alexis Liu. The Landscapists Exhibition includes works by artists, designers, and researchers, including James Corner (Field Operations), Drawing Architecture Studio, Kate Orff (SCAPE), Luis Callejas (LCLA), and Ed Wall (Project Studio).

The exhibition is set to run up until the 18th June 2021 at the Stephen Lawrence Gallery, Stockwell Street, Greenwich and is open to all subject to Covid restrictions.
