The Student Conference: 3 ways students can get involved and develop their skills

On 25-26 May our students will be discussing their success, how to define it, to build FOR it and ON it. We are asking students to submit their work as exhibition contributors, we ask all staff to encourage students to get involved.

This is a conference 'for students, by students'. Students can contribute to the conference in three categories, as a group or individual. Presentations can take place live online, or they can be pre-prepared or recorded.

In its second edition, The Student Conference focuses on Student Success, along its two main themes:

Theme 1: Building FOR Success

  • What is success? How you do you define and articulate success?
  • How can we identify and learn how we to build on our strengths that make us successful?

Theme 2: Building ON Success

  • How do you know you’ve got there? What do you do when you get there?
  • How do you recognise success? How do we learn from failure to achieve success?

3 ways students can get involved at the conference

Presenting at conferences is a great experience and this is the perfect opportunity for students to get started. They will gain insights and develop skills to write and deliver a presentation. More than that, students will find networking opportunities with academic and professional practitioners.

Please encourage your students to get involved with the conference in one of the 3 ways detailed below, and/or by attending the two day event in May. Students can share their work at The Student Conference by, completing this form by 9 May 2022 for one of the following categories:

1. Join as a Panel Member (individual)

Students that have an interest in one of the subject areas below, this is a great way to get involved. Panel members are asked to give a 10-minute talk, including time for Questions and Answers, on one of these topics:

  • Success comes in all shapes and sizes
  • Recognising success is more important than being successful
  • Understanding your strengths and weaknesses is the first step to being successful
  • Adopting a growth mindset to learn from failure

2. Submit work as Exhibition Contributions (individual or group)

We know many students have created posters, displays and other presentations as part of your coursework. Submitting them as Exhibition Contributions gives students the opportunity to share them with a wider audience, so we can learn from each other and celebrate their creativity and innovation. We welcome individual or group submissions.

3. Share their Student Journey Video bytes (individual or group)

This may feature learning experiences,  student journey or anything inspirational that they would like to share with other students. Videos should be up to 3 minutes long and can be in any format e.g. MS Stream, Panopto, TikTok, YouTube or MP4. Submissions should be provided as a link. We welcome individual or group submissions.

All work will be appropriately referenced, so  students must include a short description of themselves or their group and what the work represents.

Students can develop their skills as a student presenter
