The University of Greenwich has retained its spot in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2022.
This is the only global ranking that measure universities’ contribution to delivering the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Greenwich is positioned in the 101-200 bracket – a strong performance given the 25% increase in the number of institutions taking part. Key improvements came in responsible consumption and production (51st of 1,438 institutions globally), climate action (86), and reduced inequalities (19).
The university came 60th in the one compulsory SDG, which looks at the broader ways in which universities support the SDGs through collaboration with other countries, the promotion of best practices and the publication of data.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Harrington said: “It is very encouraging to see us continue to perform so strongly in an area which is vital to us all. A huge thankyou to everyone across the university who has contributed to this success.
“Particular thanks to colleagues in NRI for their enormous contribution and a special mention for Simon Goldsmith, Head of Sustainability, for his continuing hard work and ensuring that we had such a strong submission.”
THE analyses the data supplied to compare institutions across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.
