Join us at UNITE: Tackling Racism – the Need for change, 9.30am 25 May

TLDRoffon

At the event we will share what we have done in the past year, and importantly, launch our Race Action Plan.

In 2020 the world witnessed the shocking death of George Floyd, one year on we are still healing, analysing, and discussing how such events could happen. The world united and we have seen the power of unity to create change. The university published a joint statement with GSU Officers, Co-Chairs of the EDI Committee and Chair of the BAME Staff Network. This statement spoke of our responsibility to hold ourselves to account and recognise that we all play a role in tackling racism.

Over the past year we have supported our commitment to EDI and tackling racism at Greenwich. In February our Vice-Chancellor Prof Jane Harrington made a pledge as part of The Big Promise during Race Equality week 2021 sharing her promise to take action.

On 25 May, the anniversary of George Floyd’s death, please join our event with our Vice-chancellor Prof Jane Harrington, EDI Race Advisors, Jas Seehra-Pearce & Dr Myrtle Emmanuel, the Chancellor and the Greenwich Students’ Union where we will talk about the important things we’ve done to date, and importantly, launch our Race Action Plan.

Our speakers for the event are:

  • Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jane Harrington
  • Jas Seehra-Pearce and Dr Myrtle Emmanuel, EDI Advisors with a focus on race
  • Paul Rt Hon the Lord Boateng PC DL, University Chancellor, Civil Liberties Lawyer and ex Cabinet Minister
