University of Greenwich launches Institute for Inclusive Communities and Environments

The Institute for Inclusive Communities and Environments (ICE) is the new research institute for the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science at the university.

ICE LaunchThe institute was launched at an event at the university’s Greenwich campus at the Queen Mary Undercroft. Attendees heard introductions from Professor Jane Harrington, Vice Chancellor and CEO, University of Greenwich and Professor Vanessa Lemm, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Faculty Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Greenwich.

The institute is led by Professor Tracey Reynolds as Institute Director and Professor Maria Arche as Deputy Director.

Prof. Tracey Reynolds, Director of Institute for Inclusive Communities and Environments, said:

"We are delighted to launch the new Institute for Inclusive Communities and Environments. This is a commitment to fostering inclusive, impactful, and collaborative research environment and partnerships. The showcase demonstrates the broad range of research projects across our interdisciplinary centres and development hubs.

"The launch of this institute is a celebration of research excellence and innovation in the arts, humanities and social sciences committing to addressing important social and environmental challenges of our time."

Attendees also heard from guest speakers Professor Mike Savage, Martin White Professor of Sociology, London School of Economics and Political Science and Jude Kelly, CBE and Founder of the Women of the World Foundation

The institute comprises six research centres that act as incubators of innovative research by bringing together different disciplines in the creative industries, humanities, and social sciences.

As part of the evening’s opening remarks, Professor Jane Harrington, Vice Chancellor and CEO, University of Greenwich said:

“I am truly delighted to launch this new Institute for Inclusive Communities and Environments. Tonight’s showcase demonstrates the broad range of research projects across our interdisciplinary centres and development hubs.

“This institute is a celebration of research excellence and innovation in the arts, humanities and social sciences committing to addressing important social and environmental challenges of our time that link directly to the university’s core three priorities of student success, inclusivity and culture, and impactful research and knowledge exchange.”
