#WeAreTogether highlights this week, 1 July

Continuing our celebration of our fantastic staff and students working to support society, both locally and world-wide.

Vanessa Anthony a 2nd year Nursing student and Royal College of Nurses Student Committee member for the London region. She's also a STAART ambassador and General Practice Nursing Student Nurse Network (GPNSNN) ambassador, a national role. And like many students studying health-related subjects, Vanessa was given the opportunity to move into frontline service more quickly than planned as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.  She began her placement at Darenth Valley Hospital in Dartford in June where she will be doing 30 hours of work and 1 day's study each week for the next couple of months.  All the very best Vanessa.

Former Education Secretary Justine Greening is working with the University of Greenwich to protect opportunities and boost social mobility to aid the COVID-19 national recovery.

Michele Birtel is a Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology and Programme Leader for PhD Psychology and has been a COVID-19 volunteer at St Bartholomew's Hospital of the Barts Health NHS Trust since April. Her role involves supporting the hospital in various tasks such as greeting incoming patients to screen for Covid-19 symptoms and assist with admin support. Michele said

Volunteering at Barts is an extremely rewarding experience. I am supporting NHS staff and get to interact with people I would not normally interact with in my job.
